Becoming a Board Member

University Conduct Board

The Conduct Board is comprised of students, faculty, and professional staff members at Temple University who have the opportunity to serve on both the Hearing Boards and the Appeal Board. The Conduct Board hears cases of misconduct in which the accused student or student organization has contested the charges. The Board decides whether or not the student/organization is responsible for a violation of the policies stated in the University's Student Conduct Code based on the information presented at the hearing. Should the Board find the student/organization responsible for violating the code, the board will then recommend the appropriate sanctions to the Senior Associate Dean of Students.

The Appeal Board also hears all cases in which the student/organization has chosen to appeal the decision of the Conduct Board. The Appeal Board will determine if sufficient grounds exist for the appeal, and will then uphold or deny the appeal. Should the Board uphold the appeal, the case will be reheard by a new Conduct Board.

For obvious reasons, in no instance will any Board member who served on the original hearing serve on the Appeal Board for the same case.

Become a Member

Students, faculty, and professional staff at Temple University may apply to join the Conduct Board.

Time Commitment

The best answer for this question is that “it depends.” It depends, obviously, on the number of cases presented to the the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards and upon your availability when hearings are shceduled.

All Hearing Board members are required to participate in a mandatory orientation/training workshop in order to be eligible to serve. Hearing Board members who have not participated in orientation and appropriate supplemental trainings will be deemed inactive until they are completed.
